Alex Wagner MAKING THE STATUE
PAGE TWO: THE MAKING OF ALEX WAGNER , A PHOTO JOURNAL.
Building the clothing on top of the statue is challenging because the proportions must be exact, if not, the statue will look unnatural like some articulated dolls dressed in clothing too big or loose. I used tissue
as a stand-in vest to get the length and match the sleeves proportions.
The collar was quite tricky but nothing compared to the waist band. It took a few attempts to get it fastened on... and positioning the crinkles in the sleeves is what I like
to call: fabric sculpting . Throughout the clothing process, I'm still refining and smoothing the face and hands.
I passed on making the pants zipper, but not a chance on the jacket. I remember searching store after store for something to use and if I remmeber correctly, it was lace! Only thing missing is the zipper handle.
With many 9mm Beretta reference photos, technical sculpting was a nice change. Another coat of base paint is applied. More sanding, refining and repaints before the most difficult accessory goes on--the watch.
Painted the gun in a metallic gun metal base coat. Need to go back and sharpen the details on the gun later. Added the buddha statue necklace and watch which were killer on my fingers!
Attempted to use real (doll) hair, but the results were terrible. Ended up sculpting the slicked back hair, but plan on giving the real hair another try. I have an idea that might work. See the latest gallery shots--link below.
